Saint Simons By-The-Sea Hospital is a 101 bed psychiatric and addictive disease hospital for adults and adolescents. Located on Saint Simons Island, Ga., Saint Simons By-The-Sea's serene island setting ensures privacy and anonymity, enabling the patient to concentrate on recovery. Saint Simons By-The-Sea's staff has extensive experience in the fields of addiction treatment, recovery, relapse prevention and mental health treatment. Saint Simons By-The-Sea Hospital is seeking an experienced Psych Nurse Practitioner to work closely with the Medical Director, Clinical Staff, and Nursing Staff to provide comprehensive mental health assessments, determine diagnosis plans, prescribe treatments, and manage mental health care regimens in collaboration with the designated physician. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following tasks: - Manages the care of patients in the Acute Stabilization Programs in conjunction with the Medical Director (psychiatrist)
- Meets with patients two to three times per week and perform medication check-ups, according to an approved protocol.
- Performs assessment of patients for psychiatric issues / substance abuse and records findings in an accurate and concise manner.
- Correlates the significance of mental health history, physical assessment, and laboratory data to formulate a care (treatment) plan consistent with approved protocols.
- Implements plan of care (treatment) with appropriate treatment team.
- Consults appropriately with physicians, clinical staff, and Therapists.
- Provides patient education (and family when appropriate) (i.e. diagnosis, treatment plan, continuing care needs, and health maintenance, etc.).
- Recognizes continuing care needs and makes appropriate referrals as necessary.
- Recognizes, and responds appropriately, to the psychosocial needs and behaviors of patients when developing a treatment plan.
- Assists the Director of Nursing in the development of the nursing staff.
- Participates in the education experiences of the hospital staff.
- Participates in evaluative research and utilizes research to determine evidence-based practice protocols.
- Reviews admissions with the admitting physician and determines the appropriate level of care in accordance with ASAM criteria.
