Tenure Track Assistant Professor Department of Psychological Science
Position: The Department of Psychological Science at Northern Michigan University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Experimental Psychology to begin in August, 2019. The Department is housed in the University’s science building and has access to a variety of human and animal research equipment including near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), a 64-channel electroencephalogram (EEG), human psychophysiology equipment, optogenetic equipment (for animals), rodent operant chambers, and histological equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities: Courses taught may include Physiological Psychology, Neuropsychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, and Individual Differences, in addition to general courses in the Psychology curriculum. The normal teaching load is three courses per semester, although grant-supported load reductions are possible. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program. Laboratory space and startup funds will be provided.
Minimum Qualifications: The minimum qualifications consist of a Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related field and previous teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design including, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and assessment of outcomes; ability to conduct professional research; and ability to supervise students in research setting.
Additional Desirable Qualifications: Previous neuroscience teaching experience; previous graduate psychology teaching experience; previous experience mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students; and previous experience developing an externally funded research program.
