Postdoctoral Research Associate - Behavioral/Affective Neuroscience
Texas A&M University
September 21, 2018
College Station, Texas
Full Time - Entry Level
Academic / Research
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Dr. Stephen Maren’s Emotion and Memory Systems laboratory in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Texas A&M University. The position is associated with an NIH-funded project exploring the neurobiological mechanisms of stress-induced impairments in forms of learning (e.g.,extinction) that are central to behavioral therapies for pathological fear. Studies will aim to identify the neurobiological mechanisms and circuits by which stress dysregulates the prefrontal cortex and impairs extinction and other forms of emotion regulation. Our approach utilizes state-of-the-science methods to selectively tag, manipulate, and functionally characterize identified neural circuits involved in emotional learning and memory in behaving animals. In addition to training in these and other methods, trainees will receive comprehensive professional development training in scientific publication and communication, grant writing, and laboratory management. Ultimately, the primary goal of the fellowship is to facilitate transition of the fellow to an independent scientific career.
Located in the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building and centered in the Texas A&M Institute for Neuroscience (TAMIN; http://tamin.tamu.edu), Dr. Maren’s laboratory is highly collaborative and offers many opportunities for interdisciplinary research training. Eligible applicants will have a PhD in neuroscience, psychology, or related discipline. Salary will be commensurate with research experience and based on the NIH guidelines for postdoctoral trainees and fellows. Texas A&M University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer committed to minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans; we welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and training histories who will bring novel perspectives to the laboratory and research. Interested applicants should send a CV, statement of research interests, and the names of three references to Dr. Maren at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
