The Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital (HCH) at NYU Langone and NYU School of Medicine Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (DCAP) are seeking a full-time Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to serve as the Director of the Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation Liaison (CL) Program. The Director along with CL service psychiatrists, psychologists, and and fellows provide high quality evidenced-based, family-centered, innovative psychiatric care across HCH’s inpatient, intensive care, perioperative, acute rehabilitation, and emergency services. The Director will also oversee educational experiences for psychiatry, psychology, and pediatric trainees as well as for the children’s hospital multidisciplinary team.
In collaboration with children’s hospital and cross-departmental leaders, the Director will oversee the development and implementation of CL-related best practice standards, clinical pathways, quality and safety, research, and education initiatives. The Director of CL will also collaborate with the Director of Psychology, Integrated Behavioral Health Programs, and Medical Director of Collaborative Care, to design, implement, and evaluate innovative integrated care models within pediatric specialty and primary care.
Prospective candidates should demonstrate strong clinical skills and fund of knowledge in the assessment and treatment of a range of mental health conditions relevant to a children’s hospital population. In addition, candidates should have interest and experience in program administration, supervision and mentorship, and building collaborative relationships across departments and disciplines. Triple board, pediatric portal, CL fellowship trained applicants, or those candidates with CL service leadership experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must be board eligible/certified in general and child/adolescent psychiatry. All positions will include an appointment at NYU Medical School along with teaching opportunities. Director, Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation Liaison Program
Role:
Lead the redesign and implementation of the HCH Pediatric Psychiatry CL Service, including systems, policies, and standards of care that are consistent with current evidence based best practices;
Oversee strategic CL program planning and evaluation, coordinated delivery of multidisciplinary clinical care, organizational; administration, and clinical research, quality and safety portfolios
Create and implement a comprehensive pediatric psychiatry CL educational program for HCH providers, staff, patients, families, and trainees;
Partner with patients, families, and multidisciplinary HCH team in program development, continuous improvement, and evaluation;
In partnership with CL program administrator, oversee service operations, productivity and growth, billing/revenue, value and financial analyses, and sustainability;
In collaboration with the Directors of Integrated Behavioral Health and Collaborative Care, provide consultative support in developing, implementing, and evaluating integrated care models across the continuum of pediatric care.
Responsibilities
Review existing pediatric psychiatry protocols and current practices and benchmark against national best practices;
Recruit and onboard CL service attending providers, psychologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, and other staff;
Direct daily operations of the CL service;
Participate on relevant committees, such as the Children’s Services Leadership Committee, Sala Institute Center for Child and Family Resilience Steering Committee, Child Protection Committee, Violence in the Workplace Committee, Ethics Committee and others;
Design and collect key performance indicators and oversee quality improvement initiatives;
Engage and provide leadership for pediatric CL psychiatry, integrated care, research and scholarly activities;
Create and supervise Pediatric Psychiatry CL rotation and curriculum for medical students, residents, fellows, psychology trainees, and nurse practitioners.
Qualifications:
Board Certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry;
Triple Board/Post Pediatric Portal, CL psychiatry fellowship trained candidates, or those with significant CL-related specialty training and experience preferred;
Licensure in New York or eligible;
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills;
Ability to collaborate with patients, families, caregivers and multidisciplinary team.
DCAP standard clinical responsibilities:
Provide evaluations of new patients and the provision of written reports in a timely manner;
Provide medication evaluations of patients under care by a non-physician;
Provide psychopharmacological treatment of children, adolescents and adults;
Provide evidence-based psychotherapeutic treatment of children, adolescents, adults and their families;
Provide timely, accurate and legible completion of medical records;
Participate in clinical trials and quality and safety initiatives;
Meet all on-call and coverage responsibilities for the clinical practice and for the Department, including weekend attending call at Bellevue;
Provide sufficient evening and/or weekend hours to provide appropriate clinical care;
Provide teaching and supervision of residents, medical students and other trainees assigned by the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Director;
Attend at least 80% of case conferences and grand rounds;
Communicate effectively with a diverse group of health care professionals;
Provide outreach to the professional and lay community through providing presentations at schools, community agencies as well as leading workshops at the Child Study Center;
Maintain board certification or equivalent;
Adhere to the AMA, APA, AACAP and medical center code of ethics;
Adhere to the pharmaceutical industry policy of the NYU Child Study Center;
Notify the Medical Director in a timely manner of all planned vacations and absences;
Maintain New York State License.
