We have an open position for a PhD for 4 years for the development and application of light sheet microscopy to the investigation and recording of cleared pieces of human tumors, especially brain tumors. Our lab pioneered the application of light sheet microscopy to cleared samples (Dodt et al., Nature methods 2007) and we are eversince developing optics, clearing and applications further. We recently were able to develop a superfast clearing method for human tumors and have now started to record centimeter large tumor specimens (breast and brain cancer) in 3D with our ultramicroscope with a novel superthin light sheet (see also poster 174.08, Oct 20, am). We believe that our approach will have a severe impact on future histological diagnostics allowing the development of 3D-pathology.
We are now looking for an ambitious student to apply our technology to several kinds of human cancer samples, developing especially specific stainings and upscaling to ever larger samples.
Apart from cancer research we are also pursuing a project on the recording of memory traces in mouse brains by superresolution ultramicroscopy.
In January also a postdoc position for a similar project might become available
