As part of the integrated health model of Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center (TVHC), the Integrated Behavioral Health Program provides outpatient behavioral and mental health services to adult patients currently receiving primary care services at TVHC. The Behavioral Health Specialist conducts screening, assessment, brief treatment, and consultative services to patients with mild to moderate mental health symptoms.
Comply with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and customer service standards.
Conduct brief, non-stigmatizing screenings to evaluate the needs for mental health and support services.
Perform comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment for mental health substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, domestic violence and medical needs. Conduct follow-up as appropriate based on results of evaluation.
Provide behavioral health services utilizing brief treatment, problem-solving therapy, behavioral activation, and other Evidenced-
Based Treatments, in a culturally, linguistically and age appropriate manner.
Provide ongoing consultation for primary care staff in appropriate mental health techniques for adults.
Provide linkage and referrals to community services as needed and work from interdisciplinary approach and in collaboration with the PCP (Primary Care Provider), Consulting Psychiatrist, and Care Coordinator.
Participate with other staff in multidisciplinary staff meetings and other staff processes to achieve program development, staff development, program evaluation, program operations review, and other activities needed to maintain quality of early intervention services.
Maintain confidentiality regarding privileged administrative and patient information and complete required documentation in a timely manner.
Carry a diverse caseload of clients for individual therapy
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to work independently, organize tasks, problem-solve, make decisions, work collaboratively as a team member, and handle multiple priorities.
Position requires significant interpersonal skills with co-workers and with patients and families.
Cultural sensitivity and understanding of adult behavioral and mental health issues.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master’s Degree in Counseling or Social Work required.
Certification/Licensure as a LCSW or Licensed Psychologist required. License Eligible ASWs may be considered.
Minimum 1 year of job-related experience and previous experience working with the adult population within ethnically and culturally diverse families.
Clinical experience with provision of mental health services in a community-based setting.
Knowledge of and experience working in a primary care facility as a behavioral health specialist preferred.
